The term “capsule wardrobe” has been thrown around a lot lately and the concept intrigues me. I love the practicality of the concept. Of course with a house full of clothes in just about any print or color you want, the reality of it is a bit beyond my capabilities. A Capsule Wardrobe is basically a small collection of clothing items that can be worn interchangeably.
Where did the Capsule Wardrobe originate?
Susie Faux is the originator of the term, from back in the 70’s. Although, Donna Karan made it more mainstream in the 80’s. The intention was a just a small collection of clothing that would stand the test of time and be worn year round with only a few trendy pieces here and there to mix and match.
What does Capsule Wardrobe mean now?
Here’s the thing, these days “capsule wardrobe” is used much more loosely. It can be a small set of clothes that can be used to make a variety of outfits. In that sense, some people may own 3-4 capsules to make up the majority of their closet. Or, it could be more true to the original concept and be a full wardrobe for someone looking to have a more minimalistic closet.
Ok, but WHY have a Capsule Wardrobe?
Think about it, do you really wear everything in your closet? Or do you tend to wear the same favorites over and over? Having a true Capsule Wardrobe can narrow down your closet to just your most versatile favorites. It also means less space, and less money spent on clothes that rarely get worn. Small sets of clothes that can combine to make a bunch of different outfits is pretty awesome for people who like to take the guess work out of outfit making. Makes it kinda like adult Garanimals (does knowing what that is make me old?).
How does this work with LuLaRoe?
True Capsule Wardrobes might be a little tricky to put together with LuLaRoe, or would take some time to curate. But, small sets of mix and match pieces works just perfectly. One of my favorite things to do is make outfits for customers, even better is taking it one step further and making Capsules. So many styles work well together to create a variety of looks!
